When I have made cross-stitched or embroidered bookmarks in the past, I usually covered the back with colorful masking tape to keep the edges from fraying.
This tutorial from the Spruce shows a different approach, where you keep the cross stitch fabric big enough to fold over the back of the bookmark and secure with glue.
This makes the bookmark a little thicker but is a really nice finished look. She also intentionally frayed the top and bottom of the bookmark but you could finish those edges in a similar way as well.
Have you ever made bookmarks like this? I’d love to know how you finished stitched bookmarks.

I already shared some cross stitch patterns specific to America 250, but if you want to cross stitch something more general for the Fourth of July, these patriotic sampler style patterns are a great place to start.
