Flower designs are probably some of the most popular motifs in cross stitching, and Fabulous Florals brings together six projects from Herrschners using flower designs.
These projects aren’t just the cross stitch charts themselves. Instead, they show how the designs can be used in various home decor projects. This is fun because it allows you to expand your thinking of how to use cross stitch in the home in general and how you might incorporate your favorite projects and patterns in ways beyond just hanging them on the wall..
The patterns in the book are as follows:
- Bees & Blossoms by Lynda Watkins. This pattern of three flowers with bees buzzing around them is shown framed on a pillow.
- Beautiful Blooms Coasters by Katy Rankin. A set of four patterns sized for acrylic coasters: lilies, violets, irises and poppies. (These are pictured on the cover of the book.)
- Friendly Florals from Elizabeth Spurlock features pretty red flowers mounted on a corkboard with a photo frame insert.
- Sharon S. Pope’s Bergenia in a multi-flowered orchid (or similar, I’m not really sure what it is meant to be). This one is framed.
- Topiary Triptych by Linda Bird is a set of three framed pieces with topiary on pillars in a classical garden.
- Think Spring, which is also by Spurlock, is a set of three brightly colored floral and leaf designs. They’re shown decorating a desk caddy that has openings for pictures.
Of course the patterns can be used for other sorts of projects. Beautiful Blooms and Think Spring could easily be greeting cards, for example, or you can use a small part of the larger patterns for a different purpose. This little book should get your imagination going and have you thinking of lots of different ways to use these projects and others so that you can spread your stitching throughout the home.
