Cross Stitch Something Sweet for Mom

April 1, 2026 by Sarah White

These Mother’s Day cross stitch patterns are also great to gift a mom any time of year.

This definition of a mother cross stitch from Little Things by Joe would also be great for a new mom, not just your mom. It uses two colors and is 210 by 210 stitches, which comes out to 15 inches/about 38 cm on 14 count fabric. Make the hearts pink, red or any color to coordinate with baby’s room or mom’s favorite color.

Another great one for moms of all sorts if this word art Mother design from Kym’s Cross Stitch. This colorful design features words about mom as well as images like flowers and butterflies. When worked on 14 count fabric it comes out to 9.6 by 15 inches, or 24 by 38 cm.

This folk art sampler from Maroon Embroidery features silhouettes of a mom and daughter with ponytails, but you could leave them out if that doesn’t fit your family. Other images include flowers, teacups and hearts. The design is 160 by 160 stitches and uses 18 colors. On 14 count fabric it would come out to 11.4 inches/29 cm, or 10 inches/25.4 cm on 16 count.

This romantic looking pattern from ONESEO is a nice choice, too, with wreaths of clovers, birds and a bouquet. It uses 19 colors and is 200 by 200 stitches, or 14.3 inches/36.3 cm on 14 count fabric.

Another sweet design is this Love You Mom one from Natalka Studio. I love the colors on this one and the pretty arrangement of flowers. This one uses 23 colors and is 100 by 98 stitches. That’s 7.1 by 7 inches or 18.1 by 17.8 cm on 14 count fabric.

Or go a little simpler with this Mom floral cross stitch pattern from A New Creation by Alison. This sweet design measures 82 by 50 stitches and was worked in 16 count fabric, making the finished size about 5 by 3 inches/12.7 by 7.62 cm. Stitched in this manner it fits in a 4×6 frame.

If your mama is from the ’70s, she’ll probably love this Queen-inspired design from Rich Bitch Cross Stitching. It features Freddy Mercury singing an iconic line from “Bohemian Rhapsody” and measures 78 by 61 stitches. The design comes out to 5.57 by 4.35 inches, or about 14 by 11 cm, on 14 count fabric.

Designer Spotlight: Yellow Birdie Stitches

If you love to cross stitch bookmarks, Yellow Birdie Stitches is the Etsy shop for you. The shop is based in the UK and almost all of its designs are bookmarks (there are also some cute square designs).

You’ll find bookmarks about everything from romance novel tropes to Asian inspired towers, cats and Art Nouveau designs.

This one of a mermaid reading would be fun for summer, whether for you or for a mermaid loving person in your life. It measures 24 by 78 stitches and the patterns offer measurements for three different stitch counts, but it’s about 1.75 by 3.5 inches (or 4.4 by 8.8 cm) when stitched on 14 count fabric.

It’s shown here on white fabric but the pattern also recommends light green or blue if you have that in your stash. It calls for 14 colors (or 15 if you choose to use Light Effects thread for part of the project) and it looks like it’s all whole cross stitches with a fair bit of back stitching.

You’ll also need some felt or card stock to finish the back of your bookmark, though it is shown freshly stitched here.

In addition to the bookmarks you’ll also find some square designs that I think are designed to be coasters or mounted onto greeting cards, but of course you could frame them in a small square frame as well.

The cat section has several of these with a cats and bonsai theme. There’s also a coffee set that includes a bookmark, coaster and keychain fob. You’ll also find some seasonal designs.

In addition to the above mentioned categories, you’ll find bookmarks with birds, bugs and dragons; patterns for spring, summer, autumn, Easter, Halloween and Christmas; fantasy designs and projects for tea lovers.

So grab an audiobook and a project form Yellow Birdie Stitches to make for your next paper book read.
