Lady Kell from Kincavel Krosses is generous with free charts and projects and this is certainly an example of her generosity! She’s provided charts and finishing ideas for Noel and Xmas cubes (and those of you who don’t like the term Xmas can certainly go for the Noel charts, okay?). The blackwork motifs are beautiful too and would make great ornaments in and of themselves. Thanks to Lady Kell for sharing these charts!

What defines a pattern as “Blackwork”? Blackwork embroidery is a very old form of counted-thread embroidery. Traditionally it was worked in black silk cotton on white linen. It was used to decorate clothing. Thought to have originated in Spain around the 17th-18th century. There are lot’s of modern-day variations, one being that it is most commonly produced on Aida and not linen.
