Stitch a Colorful Cross Stitch Unicorn

I don’t know why the designer chose to call this design funny, but I guess that’s their business. This Unicorn funny cute magic animal free cross stitch pattern from Tango Stitch has a lengthy name but looks like a good potential use for all your leftover threads from other projects.

This unicorn is filled with all sorts of designs, from stripes and flowers to hearts and waves and things I’m not sure how to interpret. You certainly aren’t likely to get bored stitching this one because there’s a lot going on!

As shown it uses 13 colors, but I’ll bet you could make it even more colorful if you wanted to because there are colors that repeat in different places across the chart that you could change to different colors.

It’s plenty colorful as it is, though, and would be a great project to stitch for someone who loves fantasy and lots of colors. Or leave off the horn and make it for a horse lover who also enjoys lots of color. Either way it’s a fun project for you and for them.

One thing that’s nice about this project, too, is that it only uses full cross stitches, so while it looks complicated it’s just a matter of following the chart, there aren’t any difficult techniques, partial stitches or even back stitching involved in this project.

And even if you got off count a little bit I doubt anyone would notice because there’s so much going on here.

The design is 111 by 111 stitches, which comes out to almost 8 inches or 20 cm square when stitched on 14 count fabric. It’s shown on white cross stitch fabric but I think it would be really pretty on light blue, too. Or you could coordinate it with the unicorn’s hair, or use whatever color you have on hand.
