Get Ready to Garden with these Gardening Cross Stitch Patterns

April 27, 2026 by Sarah White

It’s finally time where we can start gardening for real where I live, so let’s celebrate with some garden themed cross stitch patterns.

Craft with Cartwright has a cute garden sampler that includes a fork, spade, welly boot, birds and a bird hose, a watering can, flowers, veggies and butterflies. Stitch the whole sampler as it is or take out the elements you like to use in a smaller project. As is, this design is 96 by 152 stitches, which comes out to 6.86 by 10.86 inches, or 17.4 by 27.5 cm. It uses nine colors and is a free pattern on her website.

Stitchrovia has a cute farm scene called In the Garden, which includes a shed, wheelbarrow, watering can, a boot, a glove, a tiny greenhouse, plants and more. This one is 152 by 190 stitches, which comes out to 10.9 by 13.6 inches, or 27.6 by 34.5 cm, on 14 count fabric. The design uses at least 11 colors.

Happy Crosses has another cute design full of garden tools and plants that would be fun to stitch up for your sun room or wherever you have plants in the house. It’s 171 by 171 stitches, which is 12.2 inches square or 31.1 cm square on 14 count fabric (the pattern notes include sizing information for other counts).

Luzatoyle has a cute and easy garden cross stitch pattern that includes a hat, glove, spade, watering can and flower in a pot. This one looks like it uses six colors and is 63 by 52 stitches. That’s about 4.4 by 3.7 inches, or 11 by 9 cm, on 14 count fabric. This would be another nice one to just stitch one of the images onto a smaller project like a card for a gardening friend.

I also love the Kitchen Garden pattern from Little Dove Samplers. This sweet design shows a greenhosue, rows of plants, rabbits, garden tools and more. At 120 by 180 stitches, it measures 8.5 by 12.75 inches or 21.5 by 32.4 cm on 14 count fabric (though the sample was stitched on 16 count, which comes out a little smaller).

Designer Spotlight: Yellow Birdie Stitches

If you love to cross stitch bookmarks, Yellow Birdie Stitches is the Etsy shop for you. The shop is based in the UK and almost all of its designs are bookmarks (there are also some cute square designs).

You’ll find bookmarks about everything from romance novel tropes to Asian inspired towers, cats and Art Nouveau designs.

This one of a mermaid reading would be fun for summer, whether for you or for a mermaid loving person in your life. It measures 24 by 78 stitches and the patterns offer measurements for three different stitch counts, but it’s about 1.75 by 3.5 inches (or 4.4 by 8.8 cm) when stitched on 14 count fabric.

It’s shown here on white fabric but the pattern also recommends light green or blue if you have that in your stash. It calls for 14 colors (or 15 if you choose to use Light Effects thread for part of the project) and it looks like it’s all whole cross stitches with a fair bit of back stitching.

You’ll also need some felt or card stock to finish the back of your bookmark, though it is shown freshly stitched here.

In addition to the bookmarks you’ll also find some square designs that I think are designed to be coasters or mounted onto greeting cards, but of course you could frame them in a small square frame as well.

The cat section has several of these with a cats and bonsai theme. There’s also a coffee set that includes a bookmark, coaster and keychain fob. You’ll also find some seasonal designs.

In addition to the above mentioned categories, you’ll find bookmarks with birds, bugs and dragons; patterns for spring, summer, autumn, Easter, Halloween and Christmas; fantasy designs and projects for tea lovers.

So grab an audiobook and a project form Yellow Birdie Stitches to make for your next paper book read.
