I love it when crafts combine in fun ways, as is happening with these granny square cross stitch patterns.
Granny squares are iconic in crochet and they are a fun graphic element for cross stitch projects. These would make sweet pincushions or stitch them like a little blanket you can hang on your wall.
The small versions of the pattern are 19 stitches square, while the larger ones are 39 stitches square. If you’re stitching all the patterns you’ll need 16 colors.
The pattern was originally a stitch along from Laurie Holt of Bee in My Bonnet Co. and you can download it from Fat Quarter Shop.

Last fall I came across this cross stitch pattern for a sea turtle and I talked myself out of sharing it right away because tropical animals don’t feel like a “fall” thing, but now that it’s summer again, let’s take a look at some cross stitch patterns for creatures that live in or around the sea.
