Modern Wedding Cross Stitch Patterns

July 20, 2024 by Sarah White

Lots of people seem to get married in the summer and fall, so if you’ve got a wedding on your list of social engagements soon, you might want to stitch up a wedding cross stitch pattern.

There are so many of these types of patterns out there it’s really hard to narrow it down, but here are a few that caught my eye on a recent browse around the Internet.

This design from Modern X Stitch features white roses and greenery, but you could change the colors if you know the colors of flowers the couple is using. It includes the first names of the couple and the wedding date and includes a full alphabet and numbers for easy customization. It uses 15 colors and is 10 inches by 10.2 inches on 14 count fabric (that’s 25.4 by 26 cm).

Hoop Modern Stitch has this minimalist design with branches curved into a heart shape and the names and date in the middle. It uses a single color of thread (match the fabric to the color of bridesmaid’s dresses if you know it for extra sweetness) and measures 140 by 130 stitches, which is 10 by 9.29 inches or 25.4 by 23.6 cm on 14 count fabric.

DMC has a free chart for a more colorful heart shaped floral wreath that you could tuck the names or initials of the couple into when you stitch it. It uses 10 colors, which you can alter if you like to suit the color story of the wedding or the couple’s home.

LoveCrafts has a ton of wedding themed cross stitch patterns, so it’s tough to pick just one to highlight, but I love this one with an Art Deco flair. It can be worked as a wedding or anniversary gift, and this one is a full kit with the chart, 16 count cream colored fabric, thread and an organizer for the threads.

Bring a little modern geometric style to the wedding party with the floral wedding cross stitch pattern from Sassy Fox Cross Stitch. This one uses nine colors and is 143 by 128 stitches, which comes out to 10.2 by 9.1 inches or 25.9 by 23.2 cm on 14 count fabric.

Want to stitch something special for an ourdoorsy couple? Life is a Journey Best Traveled Together by One of a Kind Baby Design is a fully personalized chart. You include the names (and presumably, genders) of the couple and you can also change the pets and I think you can add children as well/instead of pets. What a fun way to make it personal without having to do all the modifications yourself!

And if you need a quick cross stitch project to celebrate the happy couple, why not send them a toast? This punny greeting card comes from Stomp Creations, and it looks like it uses four colors. It measures 33 by 37 stitches so you’ll be able to stitch it up in no time for a wedding greeting card the couple is sure to treasure.

Designer Spotlight: Stitchissimo

Stitchissimo is an Etsy shop based in Bulgaria that has a heavy focus on bookmarks and cards, often with a religious spin, as well as adorable animal cross stitch patterns. Let’s take a closer look.

The biggest category in the shop (though not by much) is baby animals, and there are lots of cute options, from a horse to butterflies, a capybara to sea creatures, farm animals and more.

Since this is a year when ducks are really popular, here’s their duck cross stitch pattern, which is pretty representative of the style of these projects. This mini cross stitch design is just 27 by 33 stitches and it uses four colors, making it a great option for someone new to cross stitch (which all of the animals would be).

On 14 count fabric the design comes out to almost 2 by 2.4 inches, or 4.9 by 6 cm, so it would fit in a three or four inch hoop.

Coming in a close second is the bookmark section (there’s also a separate kids’ bible bookmark category), which includes a wide variety of projects often featuring flowers, fruit or some other image along with a quote from the bible. The kids’ section is the same, only with cute animals decorating them instead of flowers.

There’s also a large collection of Christmas and winter themed projects. Many have a religious bent such as nativity scenes and angels, but there are also snowmen, Christmas foods and winter scenes with cute animals.

Other categories include sentiments to stitch for greeting cards, spring and Easter themed projects and “boy decor” (mini cross stitch patterns of vehicles). Smaller categories include summer, autumn and the Fourth of July.

These projects are cute and colorful, and a lot of them are small, which makes them great for beginners. It’s an especially great place if you like religious themed projects and bookmarks.
