I never think to add bands or borders to my cross stitch projects. I pretty much just stitch them as they are shown.
But adding a border or bands between motifs can make a project a little more interesting and draw attention to it.
These band samplers from Embroider Bee are like traditional samplers in that the include the alphabet and a variety of motifs, but they emphasize bands, which can then be used in all sorts of other projects.
There are also cats.
There are several versions so click through to see them all!

One of the easiest ways to make a cross stitch project more personal is to add text to it. Whether you’re adding the names of people getting married to a generic floral cross stitch design, birth information to a project on theme with the new baby’s room or just adding a word or phrase that’s meaningful to you, adding words to cross stitch projects make them that much more special.
