Another great source for cross-stitch patterns that weren’t originally designed as cross-stitch patterns is the world of perler bead or melty bead designs.
These patterns are on a grid of squares, too, so it’s simple to translate them from beads to stitches.
I found this cute pumpkin (named Evil Pumpkin by its designer, Ashley302, but I don’t think it looks evil at all) at Kandi Patterns.
It uses four colors and in cross stitch would be 23 by 21 stitches, which is pretty small but would be really cute on a towel or a greeting card, or wherever else you need to put a little holiday cheer.
Do you ever use other gridded designs as cross-stitch patterns? I’d love to hear about it!
