It had been a while before I checked out the freebie patterns at the DMC website, but I happened past there the other day and checked out some of their free patterns.
This one of a lacewing is really striking, with its combination of a multicolored cross-stitched body with embroidered wings and antennae. I love all the details in the wings.
It comes out to around 4 by 3 inches, and would be lovely on plain white or black cross-stitch or other fabric.

One of the easiest ways to make a cross stitch project more personal is to add text to it. Whether you’re adding the names of people getting married to a generic floral cross stitch design, birth information to a project on theme with the new baby’s room or just adding a word or phrase that’s meaningful to you, adding words to cross stitch projects make them that much more special.
