Sunflower Cross Stitch Patterns

I know sunflowers aren’t an early spring flower, but I guess it’s the sun being around a bit more that makes me start thinking about sunflowers.

Did you know sunflowers are typically yellow, but they can also be orange, red, brown, or even black? So don’t feel limited to the yellow shown in these patterns! The petals of a sunflower are actually modified leaves that have evolved to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The center of a sunflower is made up of many small, individual flowers called florets. The florets in the center of the sunflower are usually brown and produce seeds. The florets around the edge of the sunflower are usually yellow and do not produce seeds.

I also love this simple sunflower from Fox and Box, which uses five colors in a stitching ares of 77 by 97 stitches. I like that it shows the veins on the stem and leaves as well as having color details in the flower itself.
