I love large-scale cross-stitch projects, because they are such a different way of seeing the craft, which is usually rather dainty.
Über Chic for Cheap has two projects where she added cross stitch to a sweater or shirt: a heart and a floral design.
I like looking at both of the projects together because one is done on a smooth fabric while the other is more textured, which makes the stitching that much easier — it’s just like regular cross stitch.
The heart pattern shows how to print out the design, pin it to your shirt, do the stitching and then remove the paper so you have just the cross stitch remaining. It’s a great tutorial for stitching on any kind of fabric that doesn’t already have squares.
Have you ever stitched on a garment or another piece of fabric not made for cross stitch? I’d love to hear about it.
