Winter Animal Cross Stitch Patterns

December 9, 2025 by Sarah White

If you’re in the part of the world where it’s winter right now, it’s winter for the animals, too, so let’s stitch up some cute winter animal cross stitch patterns.

Some of these projects are more literal than others, but let’s start with the fanciful, because who can resist a squirrel in a sweater? This set of three animals also includes a fox and a mouse in jackets, hats and scarves. The designs are from Wonder Stitch UA and were designed by Nastya Lanova. The projects vary a bit in size and the number of colors used but they’re all adorable.

Speaking of mice bundled up for the cold, there’s also this sweet little one form Kits by SAstitch. It measures 84 by 95 stitches, which comes out to 6.1 by 6.9 inches or 15.5 by 17.5 cm on 14 count fabric. It uses 22 colors and 11 blends to work its magic.

On the more realistic end of the spectrum, there’s this pretty black eyed junco (thanks, pattern listing, for keeping me from calling it a bluebird!) from Stitch Craft Creatives. The design is 300 by 150 stitches, or 21.5 by 10.75 inches, or 54.61 by 27.31 cm on 14 count fabric. It’s meant to be worked on one side of a horizontal piece of fabric, but I think there’s only stitching right around the bird and the rest of the fabric is blank. (Photo above is just of the bird.)

I love these little pillows of animals in the snow from Little Stitcher Shop. This set includes a fox, robin, blackbird, deer and squirrel, shown worked on linen fabric.

Or try these pretty animals with wreaths, snowflakes and other cute details. This set with a fox and cardinal, polar bear and deer is from Puntini Puntini Store, and each design is 67 by 66 stitches.

Max Stitches Art has this cute hare in the snowy forest pattern, which I only just realized reading the pattern description is actually a snow globe! It calls for 13 colors and is 71 by 75 stitches. On 14 count fabrics that comes out to 5.07 by 5.36 inches, or 12.88 by 13.61 cm.

If super realistic is more your style, try this gorgeous wolf in the snow pattern from X Stitch Pattern X. It is 180 by 180 stitches, or 12.6 inches/32.7 cm on 14 count fabric. The pattern includes measures for other counts if you want to make it smaller. The pattern use 51 colors.

Designer Spotlight: Non Stop Stitch

Non Stop Stitch is an Etsy shop based in Ukraine with a dizzying quantity and variety of cross stitch patterns.

They tend to the cute/whimsical and colorful, with lots of flowers, animals, fantasy designs and some classic Ukraine inspired motifs.

How about this super sweet Ukrainian boy and girl design? With folk inspired clothing and adorable animals, these characters can be stitched together on one piece or separately. The images were designed by Nadiia Nagorna. The boy measures 50 by 96 and uses 22 colors and blends, while the girl is 62 by 94 stitches and uses 27 colors and blends.

Both projects involve full and half cross stitches, as well as backstitch and French knots. They are classified as intermediate patterns.

The largest category on the site is Christmas patterns, with more than 200 options, ranging from cute animals to ornaments, Santas, snowmen and more. There are also plenty of patterns for both Easter and Halloween if you like seasonal stitches.

In addition you’ll find lots of animal designs, from bears and foxes to cats and dogs, mice and elephants, birds, bunnies and bugs. And extensive flowers and plants section includes pretty bouquet cross stitch patterns, stitched wreaths and seasonal scenes, as well as food cross stitch patterns, like a swag of chili peppers, mushrooms on a postage stamp, persimmons and cherries.

The fantasy and magic category leans heavy on whimsy with cute dragons, a one-eyed monster with dragonfly wings, a mermaid listening to music, and a green bearded river spirit covered in lily pads.

And that’s not even to mention other sections like food and drinks, houses and landscapes, lighthouses, people/babies/dolls and more. There’s so much to choose from there’s no way to really categorize it all, so why don’t you head over to Non Stop Stitch and do some scrolling. I’d love to hear if you make one of their patterns!
