Camping Themed Cross Stitch Patterns

May 24, 2024 by Sarah White

I have only been camping in a tent a few times in my life and I have to say I don’t enjoy it. But I know some people do, and if camp life is the best life for you, you’ll want to check out these camping themed cross stitch patterns.

First I love this little tent pattern from Plaid Online. It’s an easy little pattern that uses five colors and measures 34 by 32 stitches. The back stitched trees, grass and clouds add an extra element of cuteness.

This tent surrounded by mountains, trees and a river could almost convince me to try camping again. The design is from So Easy Pattern and it measures 109 by 87 stitches. It uses 13 colors and is available on Etsy.

Camp Cross Stitch has a lot of camping themed cross stitch projects as you might guess from the name. I was trying to keep this set more to tents than campers (though I’m sure we’ll get to those before the summer is out) so we’re keeping it simple here with one that says “let’s go camping” with a tent and a tree. It looks like it uses about seven colors and the sales page says it measures about 5.5 by 3 inches on 14 count fabric (or 14 by 7.6 cm).

This camping cross stitch sampler does include a camper but also two tents so I’ll allow it. The design is from Cross Stitch Foxy, and while it’s cute all in one piece like this, you could also stitch individual motifs on different projects (patches for your hiking pack, maybe?). The full design is 15 by 8 inches/38 by 21 cm on 14 count fabric and uses 24 colors. The stitch area is 210 by 114 stitches.

And speaking of minis there are also these cure adventure and camping themed designs from The Stitch Mill that are cute in a bunch or stitched individually. The larger adventure set is shown in a 10-inch hoop, while the smaller camping themed sampler is in a 6 in hoop. Both are stitched on 18 count fabric.

Designer Spotlight: Curious Carrie Designs

If you like seasonal samplers and cross stitch patterns with a primitive twist, you’ll enjoy the collection from Curious Carrie Designs.

You’ll find alphabet designs, biscornu, patriotic projects and more. The summer category is the largest on the storefront, with Americana and floral designs. There are also categories for the other seasons and more general designs.

One of my favorites is this pretty sunflower cross stitch pattern, which is shown styled as a biscornu but it wouldn’t have to be. The pattern features sunflowers and bees and a little beehive. It uses 12 colors of floss and each side of the pattern is 51 by 51 stitches, which comes out to 3.64 inches or 9.2 cm square.

I love the fabric she used for the sample, which she actually dyed purple herself, but it would also be pretty on a purchased light blue or other color if you don’t want to dye your own.

There’s also a whole set of themed biscornu with a four letter word on one side (crow, home, love and snow, to name a few) along with a seasonal pattern on the other side.

The shop has a rather small selection at around 90 patterns as of this writing, but it’s a nice collection of traditional looking designs heavy on samplers and biscornu designs, so if those are things you like you’ll want to be sure to check it out. Visit Curious Carrie Designs on Etsy to see all her pretty designs.

Are you a designer or do you have a favorite cross stitch designer who hasn’t made it into the spotlight yet? (You can see all the featured designers in the craft businesses category on the page.) Let me know in the comments, or you can submit more detailed information by clicking on “suggest a craft” at the center top of the page.
