There’s not much that says summer to me like fresh, juicy, ripe watermelon. Maybe tomatoes. But watermelon is pretty great.
It happens to be watermelon day on August 3, the random holiday calendar tells me, so there’s really no better time to stitch watermelon.
This little watermelon slice is a free cross stitch pattern from All People Quilt. What cross stitch is doing on a site with that name I don’t really know, but it’s still pretty great.

One of the easiest ways to make a cross stitch project more personal is to add text to it. Whether you’re adding the names of people getting married to a generic floral cross stitch design, birth information to a project on theme with the new baby’s room or just adding a word or phrase that’s meaningful to you, adding words to cross stitch projects make them that much more special.
