Cross Stitch Patterns for Mother’s Day

April 10, 2025 by Sarah White

There are so many sweet and funny sentiments you can stitch up for Mother’s Day. Here’s one collection of sweet Mother’s Day cross stitch patterns; this post will have a little of the sweet and a little of the snarky, too. There’s all kinds of moms (and kids!) out there.

Mom deserves flowers that won’t wilt, so stitch up this little hoop of wildflowers from Bella Rosa Craft. It looks like it uses four colors and it fits perfectly in a 4-inch hoop, or you could use it as a greeting card.

My Lovely Embroidery NB has this pretty floral mom cross stitch pattern that uses some bolder colors if that suits your mom’s style (of course you can change up the colors if you’re more of a pastel person). This one is 45 by 46 stitches, which comes out to 3.21 by 3.29 inches, or 8.16 by 8.35 cm, on 14 count fabric and uses eight colors.

If you’re looking for something on the sweet side, there’s this Mother’s Day word art design from PatternsYO that lists all the reasons mothers are amazing. It uses six colors and measures 97 by 135 stitches. On 14 count fabric that’s 6.9 by 9.6 inches or 17.6 by 24.5 cm.

There’s also this sweet sentiment from New England Arts N Craft, from designer Ursula Michael. This one is printed and mailed to you, so order ahead if you want to make this one for this year. The design is 150 by 184 stitches, and it uses 16 colors. On 14 count fabric it is 10.7 by 13.1 inches, or 27.1 by 33.2 cm.

If your mom is a strong woman who made you a strong woman, stitch up this piece from Helens Crossing. This one is a cross stitch kit that includes the pattern, embroidery hoop, 14 count fabric, thread and a needle. It comes out to 6 inches or 15.24 cm, perfect for display in the hoop or you can frame it.

And if your relationship with your mom is more on the sarcastic side, acknowledge the challenge she had in raising you with this design from Oh My Stitches Shop. It looks great on black or any dark fabric, and uses 13 colors. It measures 132 by 130 stitches, which comes out to about 9.05 inches/23.59 cm square.

All About Cross Stitch Project Bags

Project bags are not a necessity when it comes to cross stitch, or any other craft. But if you’re traveling with your cross stitch, or you want to keep things clean/organized/away from kids or pets, using project bags is a great idea.

Of course any kind of bag can be a project bag, from a zip top bag to a reusable shopping bag. I like to use the plastic zipper bags that sheets come in as project bags, especially for longer term storage of projects in hibernation because it keeps them clean and dust free but also allows me to see what’s in there.

Sirious Stitches has a very comprehensive post covering various options that they and other people in their community use for project bags and storage.

Probably the best thing about it is as it goes through the different kinds of bags there are links to tutorials if you want to make your own (because we’re mostly all multi-crafters, right?) and also places that you can buy bags if you’d rather go that route. You’ll find projects for a clear vinyl pencil pouch perfect for storing bobbined thread, large square pouches, vinyl square pouches, flat bottom pouches with zippers, folio cases with large pockets, bobbin pockets and multi-fold cases.

The point of all that research was that Siri wanted a new project bag, so you can click through to see not only all of these project options but what they ultimately made and how it’s working. It’s a really lovely project bag that makes me a little jealous on behalf of my projects that mostly just sit on my desk (or in a plastic shopping bag, ugh) while I’m working on them.

Do you have a favorite project bag? I’d love to hear about it. And be sure to check out the post at Sirious Stitches.
