House of Stitches

August 15, by geri jones. 1 Comment

Congratulations to Linda Rinkel and her staff at House of Stitches in LaPorte, Indiana! Mayor Leigh Morris has issued a proclamation declaring Saturday, August 18th as “House of Stitches 25th Anniversary Day”!

To celebrate this achievement, House of Stitches will host the first annual MIDWEST STASH EXCHANGE to benefit the American Heart Association. Stitchers are invited to sell, swap, or donate their “stash” and participate in the day’s events. Information can be found at the WHAT’S NEW section of the House of Stitches website: www.houseofstitches.com.

The current LaPorte weather forecast for Saturday is 74, sunny, and low humidty! A perfect forecast for a perfect cause on a perfect day at the perfect stitching happy place

Skull Cross Stitch Patterns

I’ve shared most of my collected Halloween cross stitch patterns already, but I did see this cool skull pattern from LoveCrafts that I wanted to share so I decided to hunt for a few more skull cross stitch patterns for you. If you’re getting ready for Halloween or Dia de los Muertos, these designs are fun to stitch and only a little creepy.

To start with, this skull from LoveCrafts is a free pattern that is considered for intermediate stitches. It would be fun to stitch up and frame or add to a bag for trick or treating.

This teensy skull cross stitch pattern from Stitch Fabulous on Etsy is a great one for beginners or if you just want a project you can finish in an afternoon. It is 19 by 19 stitches, worked in white on black cross stitch fabric, and is so cute in a tiny hoop!

Stitch a sampler of skulls with this pattern from The Stitch Patterns on Etsy. It’s worked on white fabric so you’re actually stitching all that black around the skulls, but that gives it a fun look. It’s about 7 inches square on 14 count fabric and looks pretty easy to stitch.

If you like your skulls to be a little fancier, there’s a whole collection of embellished skulls form Etsy seller Stitch a Quote. The whole collection is 12 designs, including a skull wearing a witch hat, a skull with snakes going through the eye sockets, a skull with a cactus growing out of the top and a skull and cross bones with a bow, to name a few.

The Stranded Stitch has a great little set of sugar skull cross stitch patterns in bright colors that would be super fun to stitch and have around as decoration through the fall. The full design is 51 by 63 stitches, or you could stitch them individually to make minis for cards, bookmarks and other projects.
