Scarecrow Cross Stitch Patterns

September 16, 2025 by Sarah White

I generally associate scarecrows with Halloween, but they’re really a fall harvest kind of character, so you can stitch and display them throughout the season. A fun thing about scarecrow cross stitch patterns is there are so many different styles to choose from, so let’s take a look at a few.

The one that got me started thinking about scarecrows is decidedly more Halloween in flavor, with a folk art sampler twist. This one is from Ulysses Blue Stitching and features a scarecrow with a pumpkin head and a witch hat, along with a crow, bat, skulls and more. The pattern is 123 by 174 stitches and uses 94 colors. On 14 count fabric it will be 8.7 by 12.2 inches, or 22.3 by 31.6 cm.

If you’re looking for a much simpler and more traditional scarecrow pattern, check out this one from Bella Rose Craft. This little cutie is only 2.21 by 3.29 inches (5.6 by 8.4 cm) on 14 count fabric and easily fits in a 4-inch hoop. If I’m counting right I think it only uses six colors.

Another one in the cute zones is this one from Tiny House Studio BC. This sweet pumpkin head is playing in the fall leaves and having lots of fun. This one uses 42 colors and measures 140 by 175 stitches, which comes out to 10 by 12.5 inches/25.4 by 31.75 cm on 14 count fabric.

A super detailed and realistic (and therefore mildly creepy) scarecrow cross stitch pattern comes from Artisan Avenue Design. This scarecrow standing in a field with his crow friend measures 200 by 200 stitches and ues 30 colors.

And I don’t really know what to call this last one but it’s so cute I couldn’t resist sharing. It’s more of a scarecrow doll that’ stitched, sewn and embellished to make a three-dimensional piece of art. The design is from Living on the Rainbow and it uses felt, pieces of glittery garland and other embellishments to make it more lifelike. The pattern notes that a sewing machine is not required, and if you use 18 count fabric your scarecrow will be about 4.5 inches/12 cm tall.

Designer Spotlight: Non Stop Stitch

Non Stop Stitch is an Etsy shop based in Ukraine with a dizzying quantity and variety of cross stitch patterns.

They tend to the cute/whimsical and colorful, with lots of flowers, animals, fantasy designs and some classic Ukraine inspired motifs.

How about this super sweet Ukrainian boy and girl design? With folk inspired clothing and adorable animals, these characters can be stitched together on one piece or separately. The images were designed by Nadiia Nagorna. The boy measures 50 by 96 and uses 22 colors and blends, while the girl is 62 by 94 stitches and uses 27 colors and blends.

Both projects involve full and half cross stitches, as well as backstitch and French knots. They are classified as intermediate patterns.

The largest category on the site is Christmas patterns, with more than 200 options, ranging from cute animals to ornaments, Santas, snowmen and more. There are also plenty of patterns for both Easter and Halloween if you like seasonal stitches.

In addition you’ll find lots of animal designs, from bears and foxes to cats and dogs, mice and elephants, birds, bunnies and bugs. And extensive flowers and plants section includes pretty bouquet cross stitch patterns, stitched wreaths and seasonal scenes, as well as food cross stitch patterns, like a swag of chili peppers, mushrooms on a postage stamp, persimmons and cherries.

The fantasy and magic category leans heavy on whimsy with cute dragons, a one-eyed monster with dragonfly wings, a mermaid listening to music, and a green bearded river spirit covered in lily pads.

And that’s not even to mention other sections like food and drinks, houses and landscapes, lighthouses, people/babies/dolls and more. There’s so much to choose from there’s no way to really categorize it all, so why don’t you head over to Non Stop Stitch and do some scrolling. I’d love to hear if you make one of their patterns!
