I have a lot of bookmarks. I need a lot of bookmarks. I will probably never so no to a new bookmark. I love stores that put bookmarks in their books, but I also buy bookmarks from time to time if they look cool.
And of course I make bookmarks. I’ve made cross stitch bookmarks as well as paper ones, and a handmade bookmark is a prefect addition to a gift of a book or a gift card to a book store.
I can say, however, that I’ve never made a cross stitch corner bookmark before. It had never occurred to me to do so until I came upon this tutorial from Hannah Handmakes.
This is a great way to use a small piece of leftover cross stitch fabric (and regular fabric and interfacing, too, for that matter). She shows how to make it using a sewing machine but it’s such a small project you could absolutely stitch it by hand if you wanted to or didn’t have a sewing machine handy. (There’s also a no sewing machine version in the post that uses felt for the backing, making it an even faster and easier project.)
Any little cross stitch design can be used on this project, or stitch a word like Read or the initials of the person you are gifting the bookmark to. Dive into your collection of mini cross stitch patterns and add anything you like. Or take a tiny piece out of a larger chart. So many different options! I couldn’t actually find specific patterns made for using as corner bookmark cross stitch patterns, but I’m sure you can use your imagination and come up with something great.
Head to her website to get both tutorials and get to stitching these adorable bookmarks for everyone on your list.
